by sass_my_frass intomorrow is such a huge day for australia; our brand-new pm will open his governments' first parliamentary session with the long-awaited apology to aboriginal australians for the time in our recent history when it was policy to remove aboriginal children from their parents.
in some places it was out of fear of abuse, in others it was just considered the best way to integrate part-aboriginal children into white society.
families were broken up, most for nobody's good.

I am a Freemason. I can assure you that there is no link between the JWs and Freemasonry apart from some of the early JW literature using Masonic imagery.

Being a Pro-Life Atheist
by B_Deserter init's strange and i'm not sure if it's because of my upbringing, but i just can't be pro-choice.
i just don't see the rational justification (other than a situation where the mother's life is in danger).
i don't, however, see a problem with stuff like the morning-after pill, when the embryo is just a group of cells with no consciousness.

We lost a baby at 12 weeks, it was the size of a jelly bean and had no concept of rational thought or pain.
We would not have an abortion and I find it distasteful that anyone would use abortion as a form of birth control because they were too stupid or lazy to use contraception, however, it is none of my god damn business what choices other people make.
I am ultimately pro-choice, it frustrates the crap out of me that people think they can foist their judgemental morals on other people. -
